 Union territory is a type of administrative division in the Republic of India. Union territories are governed in part or in whole by the central Government of India. At present India has 8 union territories. In August 2019 the parliament of India passed 2 new union territories on in Jammu and Kashmir and the other is Ladakh and that was granted on 31st October 2019. On the other hand, Dadra Nagar Haveli and daman and Diu  was turned into a single union territory to be known as Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu in November 2019.
